KAY WEDEL

1921 – 2006

 Katharina “Kay” Wedel of Calgary, passed away in Taber on Tuesday, September 19, 2006 at the age of 85 years.

Kay is survived by her children Candice (Bill) Martynes  of Colorado Springs, Dr. Robert (Marilynn) Wedel of Taber, Deborah (Peter) Brown of Calgary; her grandchildren Sheryl (Craig) Stegeman and their children Gavyn & Kayden, Krista Martynes, Will (Shivan) Martynes, Gina (Chris) Rempel and their children Ella & Nicolas, Nic (Susan) Wedel, Robyn, Angeleah and Katherine Brown. She is also survived by her siblings Sarah (Ken) Blythe of Florida, Margo Gordon of Calgary, Chris Decker of North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Peter Wiebe of Richmond, British Columbia and by numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Nickolai Wedel in 1998.

Kay was born in Manitoba June 24, 1921 and was the daughter of Helena & Peter C. Wiebe. She was raised in Saskatoon along with her eleven siblings where she received her schooling. She married Nickolai Wedel on December 26, 1942. They resided in British Columbia for several years and in the late 1940’s, moved to Calgary. They operated Wedell’s Jewellery in Downtown Calgary, Wedell’s Bridal Shop, Happyland Kindergarten and Orange Julius North Centre.

The Funeral Service will be held at the Foothills Mennonite Church, 2115 Urbana Road N.W., Calgary on Saturday, September 23, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Doug Klassen officiating.
