Toews, Henry

Dr. Henry Toews of Calgary passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2005 at the age of 87 years.

 Henry was born in southern Russia, north of the Black Sea, in a time of revolution and danger. He came with his family to Canada in 1926, and settled in Coaldale, AB. During the war years, Henry built Liberty ships in Vancouver, BC. Thereafter, he resumed teaching in Big Valley, AB, Shaunessy, AB and Nobleford, AB. Henry then became an Educational Administrator in Grande Prairie, AB, Edmonton, AB, and Calgary. Henry and Ilse retired to Comox, BC in 1980 before returning to Calgary in 2002. He loved teaching, and enjoyed fishing, gardening, travel, dancing, and time with friends and family.

 Henry will be remembered by his wife, Ilse (nee UnRuh); his sons and daughters-in-law, David and Ling Toews, Bill Toews, and Ken and Suzette Toews; chosen daughter Donna Toews; his grandchildren, Michael, Robert, Samara, Johnny, Katie, and McKayla; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Henry was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Nettie Toews and Jacob and Lena Toews; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and David Pauls, Peter and Lydia Dick, and Liese Toews.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Wednesday, September 7, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery.
