Roth, Lyle

Date: August 29th, 2018

Lyle Roth of Tofield, AB passed away peacefully at the Bethany Rosehaven Centre on August 29, 2018 at the age of 84 years after a long illness of Vascular Dementia.

Lyle was born September 7, 1933 and lived most of his life on the farm eight miles south of Tofield with his parents Lee and Mary Ann Roth, and two sisters Whilma and Lily.

Lyle attended Farmington School one year then went on to Bardo School up to grade nine.  He would often share memories of riding horses to and from school with the neighbours.  Lyle married the love of his life Annie Irma Friesen of Duchess, AB  on November 12, 1953 at the Duchess Mennonite Church.  Together they started their home on the family farm by Tofield and in the winter months Lyle worked at the Dodd’s Coal Mine. They decided to quit farming and move into Tofield where he worked at Arnett Motors and drove the school bus for Tofield School. Soon following they moved to a house just east of Tofield and Lyle worked on a mixed farm owned by Boyd and Verba Stauffer.  Their next move was to Ryley where he delivered bread and baked goods for Verners Bakery to the local town folk and farmers.  This memory of delivering baked goods had a special impact on Lyle.  He would often share a story about some of the folks he met along the way. In 1966 Lyle and Annie moved to Camrose and lived for nine years where Lyle was employed at Crawfords.  It was a good day for him when he was able to move to the family farm in 1973 and start a dairy farm.

Sharing  his memories are his family, Arthur & Eileen (Ertman), Curtis & Marion (Hostetler), Victor and Charlene (Lauber), Verleen and Tim Knudson, Robin and Gloria (Grantham); 13 grandchildren, Michael (Marla) Roth, Loretta (Aaron) Moysey, Allison (Jon) Warren, Megan Roth, Sawyer (Tori) Roth, Jordan Roth, Justin Knudson, Mitchell (Marcail) Knudson, Carissa Knudson, Amanda Roth, Courtney Roth, Jason Roth; nine great granddaughters, June, Kiya, Rebecca, Selah, Maria, Sarah, Katherine, Sydney, Sadie; two great grandsons, Jack and Patrick; sister Lily Yoder; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Lyle was predeceased by his loving wife Annie; his parents Lee and Mary Ann Roth; one sister Whilma Lauber.
