Klassen, Dr. Henry Cornelius

November 30, 1931 – January 14, 2005

Henry C. Klassen went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, January 14, 2005 at the age of 73 years.

Henry was born on November 30, 1931 in Coulter, MB. As a Professor of Canadian History at the University of Calgary from 1968 – 1998, he found much satisfaction in his teaching and writing. He was an active member of the Grace Presbyterian Church in Calgary for many years and greatly enjoyed his involvement and fellowship there. He especially took much pleasure in participating in the preparation of meals for the Mustard Seed and Family Nights and in many other areas.

Henry will be cherished forever by his daughters and sons-in-law, Alice and John Shields, Lois and Larry Neufeld, and Eleanore and Don Finch; and his grandchildren, Beth, David, Dawn, and Jennifer Shields, Shari and Dan Wiebe, Craig, Brett and Kenton Neufeld, and Adam and Kelly Finch; and his great-granddaughter Reagan Wiebe. He is also survived by his sister Margaret Toews; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Alma Klassen, and Bill and Sue Klassen; mother-in-law Agnes Warkentin; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Martha, Rudy and Sylvia, Henry and Eileen, and Abe and Myrna Warkentin. Henry was predeceased by his wife Agnes with whom he spent many wonderful years before she suddenly passed away in 1979; his parents Cornelius and Margaret Klassen; his brothers Cornelius and Peter Klassen; sister-in-law Lillian Klassen; and his father-in-law John F. Warkentin.

Funeral Services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 – 15th Avenue S.W.) on Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Victor Kim officiating. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park.
