JANZEN, Jacob “Jake”

1934 – November 5, 2014

Jacob “Jake” Janzen 1934 ~ 2014 Mr. Jacob “Jake” Janzen, of Coaldale, beloved husband of Herta, passed away on November 5, 2014 at the age of 80 years Married in 1959, they raised a family of four children: Robert (late) (Janet), Peter (Maxine), Linda (Dean) and Tim (Doris). After their April wedding, Jake and Herta farmed for two seasons in Skiff, AB. Delivery work for Plunkett & Savage followed, and then Jake’s career moved into the agricultural sales field: first at General Farm Supplies (parts manager, steel building salesman) and then, in 1982, his own business, Farm Mills and Storage.  The business retired with Jake in 2001. Throughout his life, Jake lived his faith in service to his community and his church. This included over 30 years on the Coaldale Hospital Board, many of those years serving as chairman.  A significant achievement was the building of the new hospital in 1989.  Jake’s involvement in church included Sunday school teacher, youth leader, choir member, deacon and council member. Whether as participant or leader, Jake’s desire was always to serve the Lord. Jake’s legacy of love, faith and service is remembered also by his grandchildren: Adam (Kathleen), Andrew, Tessa, Kelsey, Shane (Jenna), Miranda, Amy and Elyse. He is survived by siblings Bill (Dorothy) and Peter, in-laws Erna, Ed (Mary), Jane, Marie, George (Barb), Brigitte (Wolfgang) and a large extended family. Jake was predeceased by his son, Rob, brothers Abram and Victor, sister Elizabeth, sister-in-law Verna and brother-in-law Henry. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 7-8:00PM on Friday, November 7, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610-4 St. S., Lethbridge, AB. A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00AM Saturday, November 8, 2014 at COALDALE CEMETERY, Coaldale, AB. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, November 8, 2014 at COALDALE MENNONITE CHURCH, 2316 17 St, Coaldale, AB with Pastor Lil Thompson, officiating.
