Administrative/Biographical History

Jacob Krahn was a member of the Foothills Mennonite Church in Calgary and of the Missions Committee of the Conference of Mennonites in Canada.  In 1981 he assisted newly arrived Chinese and Vietnamese immigrants from southeast Asia to organize new churches in Calgary.  Initially the Chinese and Vietnamese met on alternate Sunday afternoons in the Foothills Mennonite church.  Later they established separate Mennonite churches in southeast Calgary.  The Krahns maintained close contacts with members of these churches.

Scope and Content

The fonds consists of a three-page manuscript “Foothills’ Involvement with the Start-up of the Chinese and Vietnamese Churches.”  Also included is a printout of the GAMEO entry on the Chinese and Vietnamese churches, and two photographs of members of the Chinese and  Vietnamese churches at Foothills Mennonite Church in 1982.
