Enns, Peter

Peter Frank Enns was born July 2, 1927 in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, three months after his parents, Franz and Katharina Enns, plus their first two sons, had fled from Russia to Canada. In 1933, the family moved north to farm near Carrot River, Saskatchewan. Five brothers and one sister were born in Canada after Peter. Peter’s childhood, school and early church life were near Carrot River, followed by grade 11 in Rosthern Junior College. Peter married Irmgard Wiens, from Nipawin, on October 21, 1951. They farmed for 46 years near Carrot River. Peter and Irmgard’s five sons and two daughters, with spouses/partners, are Robert (Helen), Brian (Sylvia), Alfred (Christiane), Laura, Gerald (Lorraine), Bruce (Lisa), Vicki (Tim). Besides farming and family life, Peter was active in Carrot River Mennonite Church and the community, plus hockey in Carrot River winters, followed by curling in Calgary. In 1997, Peter and Irmgard sold the farm and moved to Calgary. They joined the Foothills Mennonite Church and hosted many family events in their home. All of their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren enjoyed their loving hospitality. Peter passed away peacefully on August 19, 2019, with family members around him. Peter was predeceased by his parents, one sister and three brothers. Siblings who continue his family heritage are Jake, Henry, Irene (Baergen), Herman and Paul. Irmgard, as well as their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, treasure many wonderful memories of Peter and are comforted by the assurance that Peter is now enjoying the full experience of walking with God. Family and friends are invited to come to Peter’s memorial service on August 28 at 2 p.m. in the Foothills Mennonite Church, 2115 Urbana Rd NW, Calgary. In lieu of flowers, we invite you to make donations to Mennonite Central Committee Alberta or to Agape Hospice. If you have questions, contact Robert Enns at enns.rob@gmail.com
