Kaufmann, Edith

Edith Geraldine Kauffman, of Tofield passed away in Tofield on January 4, 2017 at the age of 96 years. She was born January 27, 1920 at home near Ryley, Alberta to Samuel and Elizabeth Stauffer.

She is survived by her three children, Gaylord (Helen), Douglas (Joy), Wynona (Charlie); ten grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren.

Edith was predeceased by her parents; husband Joseph Wayne Kauffman; brother Boyd Stauffer; sister Dorothy Maurer and all her in-laws.

In her youth, Edith accepted Jesus as her savior and loved to skip out of school for six weeks in January and February to attend winter bible school five days a week. God’s word was very special to her. Her faith was put to the test when her husband got polio and came home paralyzed in 1954. Her love and care for him never wavered because she trusted God for all things.

Edith was married to Joe for 67 years and 11 months. they farmed near Tofield until 1974, then moved into Tofield where they lived until 2006 when they moved into the Tofield Lodge. The last several months of her life were spent in the Tofield Long Term Care Center.

She worked very hard all of her life with gardens, flowers, sewing, quilting, paintings, crafts and preparation of preserved foods and many good meals for family and guests. She shared her labor of love with her Church family, Mennonite Central Committee and people in need.

A funeral service  will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7th, 2017 at Salem Mennonite Church (1 mile south of intersection TWP494 and RR184) with Pastor Mark Loewen officiating.
