Carol Ann Driedger Penner 1944 2018

April 13th, 1944 – Tuesday, April 17th, 2018

Winkler, Manitoba on April 13, 1944 to George and Ann Penner. She had one brother Don (Phyllis), and two sisters, Lois (Gerald) and Marina (Ernie). Her family moved to Waldheim, Saskatchewan when she was 3 years old, where her father owned the hardware store. Carol did all of her elementary and high school in Waldheim, followed by a year of Bible school in Swift Current. While growing up, her home was always filled with music, both voice and piano lessons. She used her musical skills in her church by accompanying a male quartet, and singing in the choir. Sweet Carol fell in love with one of the mischievous boys who sang in that male quartet, Harvey Driedger, who convinced her to marry him, and on May 16, 1964 they were married in Waldheim, SK. After working a year in Regina, Harvey finished high school at RJC and then they moved back to go to the University of Regina. Three years later they moved to Calgary where Harvey started his first teaching job, just 6 weeks before their first daughter, Tracy, was born. Daughter number two, Fonda, was born two years later and they lived the rest of their days together in Calgary.
Carol worked at a bank, taught piano lessons, and was an educational assistant. She had an angelic voice, singing in the church choir and Calgary Choral Society, and singing many solos throughout the years for various occasions. Her priorities were serving God and taking care of her husband, children and grandchildren. Hardly a week went by when she wasn’t watching one of her grandchildren play some sort of sport. She always made their Driedger home a safe, comfortable place for people to come, be loved and be served by her. She was a wonderful hostess, and as a result her family always felt free to bring anyone home, at anytime, for fun and food.
Carol died peacefully, surrounded by her family, in the Foothills Country Hospice on April 17, 2018 at the age of 74. She will be greatly missed by her husband, Harvey, and her daughters and their families, Brent and Tracy, Brodie and Emmitt Juul-Hansen and Steve and Fonda, McKinnon, Hudson and Kiana Wiebe.
Carol was kind and compassionate, always putting others ahead of herself. Carol loved and served Jesus through loving and serving others.
Memorial Service will be held at Foothills Mennonite Church (2115 Urbana Rd NW) on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 1:30 pm.
