Title and Physical Description

Chinese Mennonite Church (Calgary) fonds. – 1982. – o.5 cm of textual records. – 2 photographs.

Biographical History

An outreach program initated by members of the Foothills Mennonite Church, Calgary, resulted in worship services by Chinese and Vietnamese Mennonites at Foothills Mennonite Church.  Initially the Chinese group held services alternately with the Vietnamese group, but by 1986 the groups had formed two separate churches, each with its own pastor. The Chinese Mennonite Church bought a building of their own and sought affiliation with Mennonite Church Alberta and Mennonite Church Canada.   In 1995 there were 95 members; in 2000 70.

Scope and content

The fonds contains a brief 3-page history of the Chinese Mennonite Church, written by Jake Krahn who, as a member of the Foothills Mennonite Church, became an active participant in the organziation and activities of that church.  Also included are two photographs of the group in 1982, and the short GAMEO citation.
