BRAUN, Johanna

October 6, 1927 – Rosenthal, Ukraine
July 25, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

Johanna went home to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at the age of 90 years.

Johanna often said she did not need to travel abroad in her later years since she saw so much of the world in her youth. After meeting the love of her life, John, in South America they immigrated to Canada in 1957 to establish a home for their young family. Johanna was a devoted mother and Oma, always providing an open door and wonderful cooking. Her kindness, wisdom, generosity, and love were something that touched all those who knew her. Faith and family were of utmost importance to her and she will live on in our memories.

Johanna is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Herta and Jake Harms; her four children, Heidi (Stephen) Gibson, Rudy (Lottie) Braun, Gary (Allison) Braun, and Rick (Jennifer) Braun; and ten grandchildren, Rebecca (Jon) Mayhew, Kaylee Gibson, Tyler (Emily) Braun, Stefan Braun, Krista Braun, Kyle (Carrie) Braun, Jeremy Braun (Roxanne Howard), Samuel Braun, Lucas Braun, and Matthew Braun; and four great-granddaughters, Ainsley Mayhew, Robin Braun, Sophie Braun, and Berkley Braun; and many other extended family.

Johanna was predeceased by her parents Johann and Katharina Giesbrecht; her husband, John Braun; her son, Harold Braun; and four sisters, Katharina (Abram) Thiessen, Maria (John) Buhr, Anna Giesbrecht, and Helene (Peter) Niebuhr.
