Administrative/Biographical History
The Bartel family traced its history to Heinrich Bartel, who was born 14 November 1873 in Kronsgarten, Choritiza. He married Elizabeth Neufeld, b. 23 January 1878 in Wiesenfeld, Russia. She was the daughter of Peter Dirk Neufeld and Anna Plenert. Heinrich died 11 May 1942 and Elizabeth died 22 September 1956, both in Yarrow, British Columbia. Their grandson, Henry Bartel, born 3 February 1942 in Yarrow, British Columbia, visited the archives of the Mennonite Historical Society of Alberta in 2011 and donated, and loaned for copying, items pertaining to aspects of his family’s history.
Scope and Content
The fonds consists of a 71 page genealogy (ca 1971) of the Plenert and Bartel families and some additional loose pages with genealogical information compiled ca 2011, a folder containing 5 photographs, 6 printed copies of photographs, and a cd containing 12 family photographs.
