Ellen Joan (Kauffman) Lauber passed away suddenly in her home on February 28, 2016 at the age of 79 years. She grew up on the family farm south of Tofield, where she attended Bardo & Tofield Schools before completing her high school at Hesston college in Kansas. She returned to Tofield where she worked at Everitt’s Foodland. At a church youth function, she met Leo Lauber and the two eventually married on August 20, 1957. They settled on the family farm north of Dodds and were blessed with four children. They stayed on the farm until 2002, when they moved into Tofield. She was not one to let the grass grow under her feet, she loved the look of a nicely cut lawn. She was always busy with something, from helping milk cows in the early years, to gardening, canning and preserving, cooking, sewing, housekeeping, singing, and attending family, church, and community events.She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband Leo; sons Darwin Lauber, and Lonnie (Michele) Lauber; daughters Darlene (Wayne) Showalter and Luella (Jon) Anderson. 13 Grandchildren; Lindsey (Amy) Lauber, Arissa Lauber, Isabel (Ray) Thiessen, Christina (Jarrett) McLeod, Colby Lauber, Delsen Lauber, Ann Showalter (Michael Sitvarin), Laura (Jason) Katterhenry, Alexandra Lauber, Torey Lauber, Jaron Lauber, Evan Anderson, and Evangelina Anderson and 5 Great Grandchildren. 2 brothers, Donald (Dolores) Kauffman and Joe (Elaine) Kauffman; 2 sisters, Betty (Merlin) Stauffer, Grace (Edwin) Good; 5 brothers-in-law, Walter (Jean) Lutz, Ben (Pearl) Lauber, Calvin Lauber, Murray (Sylvia) Lauber, Byron (Leslie) Lauber; 2 sisters-in-law, Lois Lauber, and Phyllis (Geoff) Milligan. She was predeceased by her parents Loyal and Lily Kauffman, sister Inez Lutz, parents-in-law Joseph and Martha Lauber, brother-in-law William Lauber and niece Michelle Lauber.

Her faith in Jesus was important to her. She was baptised in the Salem Mennonite Church at a young age where she was actively involved in teaching Sunday school, singing in choirs, leading worship, and sewing blankets (100’s, maybe even 1000’s of them). She was involved in the community in many ways, and enjoyed visiting with people wherever she went. She loved her Lord, her family, and her community.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 4, 2015 at Salem Mennonite Church (1 mile south of TWP494 on RR184). Cremation has taken place and inurnment will be held at the Salem Mennonite Cemetery.
