Richard “Dick” Rempel of Lethbridge, Alberta passed away peacefully at the age of 75 years surrounded by his family on Thursday, January 30 at St. Michael’s Palliative Care following a lengthy illness.

Dick is survived by his children Kelly (Rick) Elhatton of Lethbridge and Michael Rempel of Calgary; five grandchildren Brittany (Shane) Rempel, Jenna (Jason) Day, Taylor Rempel, Chelsey (Kyle) Valeri, and Jordan Elhatton. He is also survived by two brothers Harvey and Bill (Ruth); one sister Dorothy (Fred) Falk; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dick was predeceased by his parents Jake and Mary Rempel; three brothers and three sisters and three nephews.

Born on May 27th 1938 in Carmen, Manitoba, Dick was the youngest of 10 children. In 1951, he moved to Lethbridge where he attended school and in 1958, married Joanne Lakie with whom he had two children.

Dick was a skilled athlete, and during his youth, excelled in hockey, basketball, and baseball. Golf became a lifelong passion and several rounds a week with his buddies was the norm. Also among his passions were Louis l ‘Amour westerns, crossword puzzles, bowling, and the Toronto Blue Jays.

After achieving his CA designation in 1962, Dick worked for Haico Manufacturing where he went on to become a company president. Through the years, Dick pursued varied business interests, eventually becoming a stockbroker, managing Midland Walwyn and then Scotia McLeod until his retirement.

 Dick’s family would like to thank the incredibly caring and supportive staff at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit, in particular Amy and Celeste as well as Dr. Witharana.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
