Scope and Content

This is a personal diary started by Johann Jantzen in 1839 and continued by other family members from 1903 to 1935.  It was written in the German Gothic script, transcribed into Latin script and then translated into English and photocopied in 1976.  Included are maps, two letters dated 1913 and 1998 describing family circumstances, biographical notes on Johann’s father and grandfather, and a brief genealogical chart.    The story begins in West Prussia, follows the family’s travels to Southern Russia east of the Aral Sea, then back to Germany and emigration to America, where they settled near Plymouth, Jefferson County in Nebraska.
