WIENS, Myrtle Viola

 July 29 1925 ~ January 29, 2014

Mrs. Myrtle Viola Wiens of Lethbridge, beloved wife of the late Mr. Harvey Wiens, passed away after a lengthy illness on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the age 88 years.

Myrtle was born in Tompkins, Saskatchewan on July 29, 1925 to Alfred and Jenny Peterson. She was the youngest of 7 children. Myrtle married Harvey Wiens on April 10, 1946. They spent the early years of their marriage farming and owning and operating a hotel in Saskatchewan before settling in Lethbridge, Alberta in 1969. Myrtle worked at Fred’s Bakery and her and Harv spent many hours working on their yard; entering in many city yard competitions. They also became avid bowlers and Myrtle continued bowling many years after Harv’s death. She was a huge curling fan and loved her Saskatchewan Roughriders, of which she would proudly tell you, she was a shareholder.

Myrtle is survived by her daughter Cindy Freeman (Dave); her son Grant Wiens; her grandchildren Lisa (Nathan) Block (Freeman) and Adam Freeman; her brother Alvin Peterson of Tompkins, Saskatchewan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.

Besides her loving husband Harvey, Myrtle was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Jenny Peterson; her brother Arvid; and her sisters Olga, Florence, Augusta and Jeanette.

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00pm on Monday, February 3, 2014 at MARTIN BROTHERS RIVERVIEW CHAPEL, 610 4th Street South, Lethbridge.
