Thiessen, Nicholai

February 24, 1916 – February 5th, 2010

            Nicholai J. Thiessen of Edmonton passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord on February 5, 2010 at the age of 93.  Nick was born on February 24, 1916 in Blogodatno, Neu Samara, Russia, to Jacob and Helena Thiessen.  Nick was nine when he immigrated with his family to Saskatchewan and later to Coaldale, AB.  As a young man Nick expressed his Christian commitment through baptism.  On November 30, 1940 he married Annie Baerg and they remained faithful to each other for 68 years.  They opened their home to many, sharing their gift of hospitality.  Nick loved and served the Lord faithfully to the end.

            Nick was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne in October 2009.   Nick is survived by his children Bob (Marianne), Jeanette, Paul (Evangeline), Gerry (Grace), Jim (Ingrid) and Grace Neudorf (Jim); 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; five brothers and two sisters.  He was also predeceased by his daughter Esther, and siblings Cornie, Wanja, Frank, Holda, Mary and Anne.

Viewing will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at Lendrum Mennonite Brethren Church, 11210 – 59 Avenue, Edmonton.    Interment will take place at South Haven Cemetery 11:30 a.m.     A memorial service will be held at Lendrum Mennonite Brethren Church at 2:30 p.m.
