SCHROEDER, Katie (Schmidt)

January 29, 1924 – January 7, 2016

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Katie Schroeder on January 7, 2016.

Katie was born in Alexanderthal, Russia on January 29, 1924. Her family immigrated to Canada in 1928. She was a very active woman, working on the farm with her husband Henry for years until they moved to an acreage just outside of Tofield in 1973. After Henry’s passing in 1977, she moved to town where she worked at the Tofield Lodge for many years. Katie volunteered her time at Busy Bee, was actively involved with the Mennonite Church, and enjoyed many games, including puzzles, tile rummy, and floor curling. She will be forever remembered for her competitive spirit and her quick wit. Things came full circle as she moved to the lodge until her illness necessitated stays at the Tofield hospital, the Lamont Lodge, and then briefly at the Tofield Long Term Care facility until her passing.

To cherish her memory, she leaves her children, Ruth (Harvey), Henry (Marg), David (Dallas), and Bryan (Denise); her grandchildren, Matthew, Terry (Debbie), Amy (Jude), Yannick, Amanda (Pearce), and Nicholas (Ashley); and great-grandchildren, Emily and Jason, and Alexa. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1977 and her daughter Lena Hauser (Peter) in 2009.

A Memorial Service will be held in the Tofield Mennonite Church on Monday, January 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m.
