SCHMIDT, Eunice Joyce

July 16, 1937 – October 1, 2019
Eunice Joyce Schmidt (nee Hofer) was born on July 16, 1937 in Bridgewater, South Dakota to parents, John and Mary. She recalled with relish her early years of growing up on the family farm in Yale, South Dakota with her two younger sisters. Away at college in Kansas, she met her husband Marvin. Together they pursued a love for the Church, travelling and opening their home to countless visitors. After Marvin’s unexpected death in May 2001, Eunice remained vivacious and socially active. She continued to be involved in church activities, volunteer work, cooking, card-making, scrapbooking, sewing, displaying her handiwork at craft sales, trips to visit family and friends, and hosting dinner guests. Eunice took pleasure in staying in touch and interacting with her grandchildren and great- grandchildren as she watched them grow and develop. Her life was very suddenly and abruptly cut short by an aggressive battle with cancer. She will be lovingly remembered by her family – children Colette (Lorne), Bevan (Darlene) and Bryan; grandchildren Stephanie, Danielle, Calvin and Carter; great-grandchildren Evalee, Charis and Elias; sisters Lois (Ken) and Elaine (Dean); and many nieces and nephews and countless friends. A Celebration of Eunice’s life will be held at Highland Mennonite Brethren Church on Monday, October 7 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be at Fosters Garden Chapel on Sunday, October 6 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eunice’s name to Mennonite Central Committee Alberta.
