Regier, Peter

December 16, 1923 ~ April 27, 2018 (age 94)

Mr. Peter Regier of Coaldale, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Annie Regier, passed away at Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the age of 94 years.
Peter Regier was born December 16, 1923 in the village of Ebenfeld in the Crimea, Russia to Peter and Margaret (nee Dueck) Regier. They immigrated to Canada when Peter was 6 years old, landing in Halifax on April 13, 1930. They travelled by train to Winnipeg, and then south to Winkler, MB. In the spring of 1931, they moved to Coaldale. He attended school till he was 15. He was a huge help to his Dad on the farm. Peter attended the Coaldale Bible School for 3 years starting in 1941. It was while attending Bible School that he gave his life to Jesus and was baptized and joined the Coaldale Mennonite Brethren Church. He served time working in the forests of Whitecourt and Jasper as a conscientious objector during World War II. He married Annie Thiessen on May 30, 1946 and they had almost 69 years together.
Together they farmed and raised six children. Over the years they grew wheat, barley, oats, alfalfa, sugar beets and for a time had milk cows. They raised sheep and had a farrow to finish hog operation. With farming not being that profitable, he had several off the farm jobs over the years, working as an electrician, construction, cleaning pea vines and fencing. Hauling feed and feeding cattle at Thiessen Feedlot which later became Kasko’s and retired from this job when he was 80. After retirement he was able to help his brother a few times with lawn cleanup in the spring and he drove silage truck and some tractor driving.
Dad served on various boards and committees over the years. He loved everything about trains and had his own large train setup which he enjoyed to the full. He was an avid reader. His greatest pleasure though, was spending time with his family, making many trips to see the kids. He loved people so much and treasured all his many friends.
Peter leaves to mourn six children and their families. John (Mary Lou) Regier, Jack (Lil) Regier, Anne (Gilbert) Sperling, Joy (Alvin) Thielmann, Lue (Tim) Wiens, and Larry (Jolayne) Regier.
