Postcards from the Past

Another new project that can develop as donations arrive at the MHSA is our Postcards from the Past Collection Project.

If you have postcards that your family received that reveal the aesthetic or other tastes of the time and/or reveal commentary about life in earlier decades, please consider donating them to the MHSA.

We want to develop a collective understanding of what kinds of postcards were in use by Mennonites in Europe and North America – and what was conveyed on them.

It is particularly interesting that Canadian Mennonite used postcards so freely, when one thinks about the fact that communication from Russia in the form of letters were censored in the last century. See also “Mennonite postcards” in other online collections.

If you’re having trouble identifying/dating a postcared, try the resources at Playle’s Online Auction.
