DOERKSEN, Dr. Bernhard “Ben”

February 8, 1933 – October 20, 2011

Bernhard “Ben” Doerksen beloved husband of Agnes of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, October 20, 2011 at the age of 78 years.

Ben was born in Coaldale, AB. After high school, he attended Bible School in Coaldale and at PBI in Three Hills. From there, he went to MBBC in Winnipeg where he met and married Agnes Kopp. They were married for fifty-five years and during this time he taught for twenty-six years at Bethany Bible College. He was actively involved in leadership roles with the MB Conference. Ben was a caring husband and father who modelled integrity, honesty, determination and courage throughout his life.

Besides his loving wife Agnes, Ben also leaves to mourn three children and their families, Richard and Dori of Calgary, AB, Robert and Melinda of Okotoks, AB and Wes and Beth Penner of Valleyview, AB; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Kim, Kristin, Jesse (Denita), Michelle, Julie (Jesse), Derek and Levi; two great-grandchildren Kara and Kevin; seven siblings; and many other relatives and friends. Ben was predeceased by his parents Bernhard and Elizabeth Doerksen; one brother in infancy; three sisters; one brother-in-law; and one niece.

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Sunday, October 23, 2011 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Ben’s Life will be held at Highland Mennonite Brethren Church (4018 Centre B Street N.W.) on Monday, October 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.
